What If Joffrey Lannister Had Lived?

Few characters inspired as much hate as King Joffrey Baratheon. His death at the infamous “Purple Wedding” was a moment of relief for many both in Westeros and among viewers. But what if the poison had never reached his lips? What if Joffrey Lannister had lived?

Tyrion’s Fate Would Be Far Darker

Had Joffrey survived Tyrion Lannister would likely have met a swift and brutal end. Joffrey already hated his uncle and delighted in humiliating him. With no poisoning to blame Tyrion for, the king might have found a different pretext to punish him perhaps accusing him of treason, or using Sansa’s escape as an excuse.

Without the trial there would be no dramatic escape with Varys, and no chance for Tyrion to kill Tywin meaning Tywin Lannister remains the power behind the throne.
